Great Dog-Friendly Hikes Near Las Vegas

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

-Red Rock is less than 30 minutes from the Strip, and offers desert-scenery hiking just outside the city.

-Trails like Calico Tanks Trail, Pine Creek Canyon Trail, and Ice Box Canyon Trail are popular with dog owners — they combine rock formations, canyon terrain, and sometimes shaded or cool areas.

-It’s a great place to let your dog experience real “desert-hike” conditions: rocky paths, elevation changes, and scenic views. Just bring plenty of water and be ready for rough terrain.

Valley of Fire State Park & nearby Lake Mead area

-Valley of Fire, about an hour northeast of Vegas, offers dramatic red-rock desert landscapes. Dogs are allowed on most trails — including Fire Wave Trail and White Domes Trail — as long as they remain leashed.

-In the Lake Mead area, the Historic Railroad Trail provides a more relaxed but scenic off-road-feeling hike: long, flat stretches with tunnels and views — good for a slower-paced outing.

-These areas give you a real desert escape — rocks, open sky, geological formations — and a chance for your dog to explore a big, wild-feeling environment without venturing too far from civilization.

Mount Charleston / Spring Mountains (for cooler, forest-style hikes)

-If you’d like a break from desert heat and want something greener and cooler, Mount Charleston offers forested and mountain-style hikes. Trails like Cathedral Rock Trail are popular for those wanting a mix of elevation, views, and fresh air.

-The higher elevation and pine-filled environment feel completely different than the desert surroundings — great for dogs that enjoy cooler weather and varied terrain.

-Perfect for a day trip where you want more of an alpine-hike vibe than desert scrambling.
