How often should I wash my cat?

The best answer is: it depends on your cat. Most cats groom themselves so well that they rarely need baths — in fact, over-bathing can dry out their skin and coat.

Here are some guidelines:

  • Indoor short-haired cats with no special issues: a bath only when they get dirty, smelly, or into something they can’t clean off themselves.
  • Long-haired breeds, hairless cats (like Sphynx cat), older or overweight cats that can’t groom themselves well: maybe every 4-6 weeks (or even more frequent for hairless breeds) may be needed.
